Position: Video Production Technician
Location: Richmond, VA
Type: Full-time
Salary: $46,000

The Video Production Technician provides creative and technical support for production of studio and remote video productions. The ideal candidate possesses technical skills for video production and engineering, as well as a curiosity for learning the craft of being behind the camera. A team player with good communication skills and a strong sense of organization, our Production Technicians prepare sets/equipment for each event and are expected to resolve technical issues as they arise. Technicians may be scheduled to work events on weekends and evenings.

 VPM is Virginia’s home for public media, headquartered in Richmond to serve Central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley. The VPM News team produces award-winning journalism from our NPR affiliate with distribution across digital channels to more than 2 million people in VPM’s coverage area.  As an independent, nonprofit service, we strive to create and serve a more informed public.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Sets up video and audio recording equipment and cabling.
  • Operates video, audio and lighting equipment.
  • Constructs, prepares and repairs sets and props.
  • Erects sets, scenery and lighting according to production needs.
  • Performs routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Disassembles and stores sets and equipment after production.
  • Keeps studios and other work areas in order.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A high school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • 6 months of work experience in television, film or video production.
  • Ability to lift overhead and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work on ladders or in elevated spaces.
  • Ability to walk/stand for long periods of time.
  • Flexible to work unusual hours and at remote locations, including overnight travel, as necessary.
  • Possesses a valid Virginia driver’s license.
