It’s no secret that the ongoing budget cuts within the federal government are having broad, lasting effects. But how are these federal budget cuts affecting Richmond and essential services in RVA? VPM’s podcast RVA’s Got Issues (RGI) is exploring these topics and more as it crosses the halfway point of its second season.
“So far this season, I’ve been really excited about the many ways we’ve expanded our storytelling,” said host Rich Meagher. “We’re reaching out to new kinds of guests, from members of Congress to our own in-house reporters, and thinking about even big national issues. But through it all, we’re always thinking about how best to help explain what’s happening here in RVA to our listeners, and to continue to inspire them to get involved.”
As the second season continues, RGI is looking forward to several informative new episodes, including a conversation with Richmond Mayor Danny Avula, where he will answer listener questions, which is set to premiere May 14. Listeners can also look forward to episodes on Richmond’s economy, the commonwealth attorney election and more.
Season two has included conversations with Richmond Public Schools superintendent Jason Kamras, Henrico County manager John Vithoulkas, Congressman Rob Wittman and Michael Pope, host of The Virginia Press Room podcast.
Back in April, RGI host Rich Meagher joined Michael Phillips of Sports Radio 910 The Fan (and The Richmonder) to talk sports tourism in Richmond and the future of the region in the sports world. You can listen to the conversation here.
Several episodes this season have featured RGI’s voicemail hotline, which allows audience members to leave questions for Rich to potentially answer in future episodes. RGI will go back to the voicemail hotline for season two’s episode covering the Richmond City Council, which is scheduled to premiere on May 21. To leave a question, just call (804) 560-8108.
