Ulysses Kirksey is celebrating his 30th year as Music Director and Conductor of the Petersburg Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra was established in 1978 by Dr. F. Nathaniel Gatlin. They are an important cultural organization that serves the communities across central and southern Virginia. Dr. Gatlin’s initial dream has now become one of Petersburg’s “most treasured assets.”

Maestro Kirksey joined the orchestra as a cellist in 1980 and took the podium in 1989. He has worked hard to maintain and expand the offerings that Dr. Gatlin established. This Sunday, the PSO will celebrate his tenure with a “Conductor's Favorites” program at Petersburg High School. The concert begins at 4:00 p.m.

Yours in good music,
Mike Goldberg Classical Music Host, 93.1 and 107.3 WCVE Music
