Bruce Molsky is arguably our most renowned and respected custodian of a rich musical tradition…the Appalachian fiddle. A self-professed street kid from the Bronx, his sister played him a Doc Watson album when he was just 12, and it changed his life. He’s since recorded more than two dozen albums, has been nominated for two Grammys, and is a professor at Boston’s prestigious Berklee School of Music. The close harmony he creates with his fiddle and vocal are unmatched. Mark O’Connor says Bruce has “a mystical awareness of how to bring out the new in something that is old.” Linda Ronstadt says, “there’s an incredible power of history and tradition in his vocal.”
With the help of two young and gifted apprentices, guitarist Stash Wyslouch and clawhammer banjoist Allison DeGroot, we’ll savor some fresh new takes on an authentic American artform as JAMinc presents the season premier of In Your Ear with Molky’s Mountain Drifters.
In Your Ear offers a chance to discover new artists and appreciate the “in the moment” creativity and inspiration that only live music can provide. Studio A is a “great room,” a haven for artists with intimate, friendly and informed audiences and peerless audio fidelity, thanks to engineers Carlos Chafin, Andrea Stefl and Paul Bruski. JAMinc president Tim Timberlake produces the programs covering a wide range of genres including bluegrass, jazz, blues, old time, Celtic, gospel and singer-songwriters of many styles. Artists range from superior local and regional talents, to premier acts from all over the country.
