In Your Ear Episode 67: Nellie McKay

Nellie McKay playing piano

The New York Times says, “the one thing certain about Nellie McKay is the size and range of her talent…a sly, articulate musician who sounds comfortable in any era.”

Rolling Stone calls her a “renegade songwriter with an ultra-flexible Great American Songbook sensibility, who finds modern resonances everywhere.”

British Born and American bred, Nellie McKay is a tirelessly engaging entertainer. Her music has been heard on Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire, Grey’s Anatomy and NCIS, and she’s done late night with Letterman, Conan and Craig Ferguson. On radio she’s appeared on NPR’s Mountain Stage, A Prairie Home Companion, eTown, and Marion McPartland’s Piano Jazz.

A recipient of PETA’s Humanitarian Award and the Humane Society’s Doris Day Music Award in recognition of her dedication to animal rights, Nellie is an outspoken advocate for feminism, civil rights and other deeply felt ideals. Enjoy these highlights from Nellie McKay's solo appearance at In Your Ear Studios in May of 2019.
