The Harlem Quartet Comes to Richmond

The Harlem Quartet was founded in 2006 by the Sphinx Organization, a national nonprofit dedicated to building diversity in classical music and providing access to music education in underserved communities.  The ensemble is known for their varied repertoire and is equally at home with classical and other styles of music.  They collaborated with jazz masters Chick Corea and Gary Burton on the album  Hot House, a 2013 multi-Grammy Award winning release.

This weekend in Richmond, the Harlem Quartet will kick off the 2021-22 Mary Anne Rennolds Chamber Concert Series put on by Virginia Commonwealth   University.  The performance will be held Sunday at 3PM in the Grace Street Theater.  Violinist Ilmar Gavilan joined me to talk about the concert, as well as the history and mission of the Harlem Quartet.

Yours in good music,
Mike Goldberg Classical Host, VPM Music
