Cellist Jennifer Kloetzel has had a passion for the music of Beethoven since she was eight years old and her teacher placed the composer’s second cello sonata on her music stand.  Ever since, she has spent many years performing and recording his works, most prominently all the string quartets with the Cypress String Quartet.  Her latest release gives us an intriguing look at Beethoven's complete works for cello and piano.

The 3-CD set is in collaboration with pianist Robert Koenig, who is playing on a 19th century Blüthner concert grand piano.  The repertoire includes the five Sonatas for Cello and Piano, three sets of variations – based on arias from Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and Handel’s Judas Maccabaeus – and the Horn sonata for which the composer also wrote a cello part.

I hope you enjoy my enlightening talk with Jennifer about this project.

Yours in good music,
