Praised for their “huge range of dynamics, massive sound and spontaneity” ( American Record Guide), the Viano String Quartet will be performing in the Singleton Center this Saturday evening, April 2nd, wrapping up the season for the Mary Anne Rennolds Chamber Concert Series at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Formed in 2015 at the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, where they were Ensemble-in-Residence through the 2020-21 season, the quartet has performed on three continents in venues such as Die Glocke, Wigmore Hall, Konzerthaus Berlin, and Segerstrom Center for the Arts.  The Viano String Quartet has performed with world-class musicians such as pianists Emanuel Ax and Elisso Virsaladze, violist Paul Coletti, and violinist Noah Bendix-Balgley.  They are currently the quartet-in-residence at The Curtis Institute.

I had the pleasure of catching up with the quartet via Zoom during their current concert tour.  They talked about their time together and gave me a preview of the upcoming concert.

Yours in good music,
Mike Goldberg Classical Host, VPM Music
