Time For The Blues showcases Popa Chubby and GA-20 and so much more

Popa Chubby and GA-20
Popa Chubby and GA-20

It’s that favorite time of the week again, Saturday night, and this Saturday night, May 21st, Henry Cook and I hope you will join us as we rock the house with an extra special gigantic wall to wall blowout of a Time For The Blues extravaganza! We’re sparing no hyperbole for this episode as we pull out all the stops just for your listening pleasure.

We’ve got one of the biggest guys in the blues this week, and I mean that literally. Popa Chubby, aside from being a giant guitar player, is a giant of a man. He plays with a grace that is unbelievable, but with a power that is often unattainable from a smaller person.

His recent release, Emotional Gangster, on Dixiefrog Records, is getting a lot of recognition on satellite radio and we’re going to listen to several sides on Saturday night just so you can get a real feel for the album. You’ll see why Popa is among our favorites here at Time For The Blues World Headquarters.

If that wasn’t enough to get you rocking, just wait until you me GA-20. I’ll explain their name during the show, so be sure to tune in for that story. These guys have released a tribute album to their idol, Hound Dog Taylor, titled Try It...You Might Like It: GA-20 Does Hound Dog Taylor. And believe me, once you try it, you will definitely like it!

Remember, Hound Dog was the artist that so impressed a young Bruce Iglauer that he started Alligator Records just to record him. We’ve got three sides from GA-20 and one from the original Hound Dog Taylor himself just so you can hear what the fuss is all about.

But you know we’ve got still more just waiting for you.

How about some recent releases from our pal Mick Kolassa from his new release, Wasted Youth? Or a side from Guy Davis from Be Ready When I Call You, or one from Gabe Stillman from his VizzTone release, Just Say The Word?

And there’s still more!

We’ve got Debbie Bond from Blues Without Borders, Clarence Spady from Surrender, and Tia Carroll from You Gotta Have It.

We’ll be glad to have your company if you care to join us at 9:00 this Saturday night. That’s May 21st, and you can find us on one of these great VPM Stations: 89.1 WCNV, Northern Neck; 90.1 WMVE, Chase City; and the flagships, 93.1 and 107.3 VPM-Music and 88.9 HD2, Richmond, where it’s always Time For The Blues!
