We fired up the Wayback Machine and put together a great retro show

Stevie Ray Vaughan, Albert King and The Yardbirds
Featuring music from Stevie Ray Vaughan, Albert King and The Yardbirds

“Navigator! Set our coordinates for the past!”

“Aye Captain, where and when do you want to go?”

“Someplace where they’ve got good Blues…”

You don’t have to travel into the past, Henry Cook and I have done it for you with our next special episode of Time For The Blues that’s airing this Saturday night at 9:00! Every so often we like to dip into the past and bring back some of the greats from yesterday, and this week is one of those.

First up, we’ve got the great team up of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Albert King as these two guitar greats ran tape on them talking and playing the blues. The album, In Session, is a classic but not one every blues lover has in their collection.

That may change after that episode.

Lovers of the sounds that two masters of the six-string will enjoy this, so any guitar lovers that may be in your orbit, make sure to let them know…

Second up, we’ve got a couple of sides from The Yardbirds from their heavy blues days. We are playing sides from Five Live Yardbirds and Having A Rave Up and we hope you will join us for these great songs as well as one from Led Zeppelin.

And there’s still more!

We’ve got new releases from Shemekia Copeland, so new in fact it hasn’t even been released yet. That’s right, you get a preview of her newest album, Done Come Too Far on Alligator. Plus we’ve got one more from our friend Janiva Magness’ latest album, Hard To Kill.

A quick aside to answer a question that has popped up in our email. The question is, am I (John Porter) leaving Time For The Blues in order to concentrate on my new show, John’s Porch? The answer is no, I have no intention of leaving Henry by himself to run the show, it’s just that it’s much more fun hanging out with him and listening to great blues. So, join us on Saturday night and join me on Sunday morning, you just might get a double dose of the blues!

So, Henry Cook and I will be glad to have your company if you care to join us at 9:00 this Saturday night. That’s July 9th, and you can find us on one of these great VPM Stations: 89.1 WCNV, Heathsville; 90.1 WMVE, Chase City; and the flagships, 93.1 and 107.3 VPM-Music and 88.9 HD2, Richmond, and streaming onlineat VPM.org where it’s always Time For The Blues!
