We take a musical journey to the moon

The moon has long since stirred the imagination of poets, songwriters, and novelists.

I hope you will join me on John’s Porch this Sunday morning, September 25th, from 10:00 until noon as we take a musical journey to the moon. Our first hour together will be dedicated to examining that celestial orb that circles the earth every 28 days or so.

The moon has long since stirred the imagination of poets, songwriters, and novelists. We might as well join them and sample the fruits of their labors. I will admit that growing up in the days of the space race, my imagination was also piqued, and I’ve never lost my love of exploring the heavens.

We’ll have music from the likes of Ralph Stanley, Samantha Fish, Robert Nighthawk, Chip Taylor and John Prine, and Creedence Clearwater Revival among others. Dolly Parton, Don Henley, and Cat Stevens will also offer their take on the moon.

In the second hour, we’ll save the themed sets to the very end and otherwise enjoy the efforts of Alison Kraus And Union Station, Delbert McClinton, Anne Murray, James Taylor, Chris Isaak and several more great artists.

If you haven’t visited John’s Porch yet, I hope you will give us a listen Sunday morning, it’s a good way to start your day. It’s a mix of styles and you’ll often discover that you like a song from someone you never listened to before.

That’s this Sunday, September 11, from 10:00 until noon, and we’ve saved the best seat for you. I will be glad to have your company if you care to join us. You can find us on one of these great VPM Stations: 93.1 and 107.3 VPM-Music and 88.9 HD2, Richmond, and streaming online at VPM.org.
