Retro and The Blues go hand in hand

Jon Lord and Killig Floor album covers
Jon Lord And The Hoochie Coochie Men and the Killing Floor are featured.

Henry Cook and I hope you will join us on Time For The Blues this Saturday night, October 8th, at 9:00 p.m. as we present another classic retro show of great blues.

Mr. Cook has been on a mission to work our way through the breadth and depth of some classic blues and this week he has really outdone himself. We have music from Down Under as Jon Lord And The Hoochie Coochie Men tear the place up on a live recording of one of their concerts. Lord may be best remembered as the keyboardist for Deep Purple and Whitesnake. You might wonder what those two bands have in common with great blues, but Lord was a master at blending genres of music to create an entirely new sound.

And he loved the blues.

He was going to do a series of classical shows (he was most found of the baroque) but broke a thumb and couldn’t play classical so he drafted a local blues band, rehearsed, and put together one heck of a strong album called Live At The Basement that still rocks hard to this day!

We also have some Killing Floor from their self-titled album and wait until you hear this band. Just for grins and giggles, we’ve also included music from Led Zeppelin, Foghat, Tommy Castro & The Painkillers, and something from the trio of Joe Louis Walker, Bruce Katz, and Giles Robson.

It’s a killer show from the first note to the last and you won’t want to miss it.

We would love to have you join us for the fun if you care to join us at 9:00 this Saturday night. That’s October 8th, and you can find us on one of these great VPM Stations: 89.1 WCNV, Heathsville; 90.1 WMVE, Chase City; and the flagships, 93.1 and 107.3 VPM-Music and 88.9 HD2, Richmond, and streaming online at VPM.org where it’s always Time For The Blues!
