Guitar slingers and more on Time For The Blues

Living In A Burning House and Don’t Pass Me By album covers
It's a heck of a lineup and we’ve got them all here for your listening pleasure.

Henry Cook and I hope you will join us this Saturday night, October 22, at 9:00 as we uncork another classic edition of Time For The Blues! We’ve got some great blues coming your way and some amazing guitar work that is sure to make your night.

We’ll start things off with the powerhouse that is Selwyn Birchwood and his recent release Living In A Burning House that was put out by our friends at Alligator. We have three sides from that album and one from his previous album just so you can see his remarkable skills.

But that’s not all. We also have a tribute album featuring the music of another guitar virtuoso, Sean Costello. This album, Don’t Pass Me By: A Tribute To Sean Costello features some of the best guitar slingers on the planet paying homage to one of their own who, unfortunately, passed away at the height of his prowess. Some of the people who performed on this album include Candye Kane and Laura Chavez, the Nick Moss Band, and Watermelon Slim and Dennis Gruenling.

We’ve even got one from Costello himself.

It's a heck of a lineup and we’ve got them all here for your listening pleasure.

And there’s still more. How about a nice quiet set of acoustic blues with the inimitable Rory Block? She’s always a welcome addition to any show and we’re going to feature her in a set as well. Block is one of the best interpreters of the old school blues, and I mean the real old school, classics from the ‘20’s and ‘30’s that sound as fresh today as they did back then.

Believe it or not, there’s even more fun with recent releases from Jose Ramirez and The Proven Ones with Ruthie Foster.

All in all, it’s a great show and we would love to have you join us for the fun if you care to join us at 9:00 this Saturday night. That’s October 22nd, and you can find us on one of these great VPM Stations: 89.1 WCNV, Heathsville; 90.1 WMVE, Chase City; and the flagships, 93.1 and 107.3 VPM-Music and 88.9 HD2, Richmond, and streaming online at VPM.org where it’s always Time For The Blues!
