Return of "Weekend Overdrive" on Time For The Blues
Henry Cook and I hope you will join us this Saturday night, November 5th, at 9:00 as we welcome our special guest Mr. Kevin Wiese, the former host of Weekend Overdrive heard on WCVE (before it became VPM). Kevin’s specialty is guitarists who “shred,” and I’ll leave it to him to explain that more thoroughly on the show.
In a nutshell, he’s all about guitarists like Joe Bonamassa, six-string masters who play loud and fast. And he’s brought along several artists that fit that bill.
We’ve got selections from musicians like Derek Sherinian, Andy Timmons, Vinnie Moore, Paul Gilbert, Jing Chi, and my personal favorite The Hellecasters!
If you’ve never heard The Hellecasters you are in for a real treat and we have a side from their great album The Return of the Hellecasters. There’s even a Richmond connection to the band and we’ll explore that as well.
And there’s more. Henry went looking for artists that would mix well with Kevin’s selections, so we have numbers by Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Love Sculpture, Scott Ellison, and yes, Joe Bonamassa.
I forgot; we also have a side from the band Niacin. Lots of shredding going on in this show. So, if you’re looking for a laid-back acoustic hour, you’re in for an awakening because this show is rocking from the first note to the last!
All in all, it’s a great show and we would love to have you join us for the fun if you care to join us at 9:00 this Saturday night. That’s November 5th, and you can find us, plus Kevin Wiese, on one of these great VPM Stations: 89.1 WCNV, Heathsville; 90.1 WMVE, Chase City; and the flagships, 93.1 and 107.3 VPM-Music and 88.9 HD2, Richmond, and streaming online at VPM.org where it’s always Time For The Blues!
