Having fun with The Blues Brothers and James Brown on TFTB

Blues Brothers and James Brown albums
Enjoy tracks from Blues Brothers: The Definitive Collection and Messing With The Blues.

Henry Cook and I hope you will join us this Saturday night, November 19th, at 9:00 as we unwrap the latest edition of Time For The Blues. We’ve got a very cool mix of retro sounds with a touch of new music that will serve to whet your appetite for an upcoming show.

Henry’s been working overtime on this one, digging deep into the vaults for some great Blues Brothers material. For many folks, they became fans of the blues and rhythm and blues thanks to the antics of Jake and Elwood and their appearances on Saturday Night Live or their blockbuster movies. Walk up to just about any man and ask him if he can recite lines from The Blues Brothers movie and you’ll probably be stuck for an hour or so while he delivers line after line of dialogue.

Well, here’s your chance to listen to some of their greatest music as we pull tracks from Blues Brothers: The Definitive Collection.

But that’s not all. The Godfather of Soul himself, James Brown, will make an appearance as well, shouting his way through some blues hits. Brown has his own inimitable style and we should never forget just how great he was. These all come from his album, Messing With The Blues. Extra points will be given to anyone who can decipher all the lyrics without resorting to the internet for help!

But there’s still more.

We have a set of Unusual Suspects for you. You know, people who don’t normally play the blues, playing the blues. We’ve got some good ones for you.

Teasing a future show, we’ve got sides from Buddy Guy (with James Taylor, no less!) and Walter Trout. Big time guitar players lighting up the joint with their playing.

All in all, it’s a great show and we would love to have you join us for the fun if you care to join us at 9:00 this Saturday night. That’s November 5th, and you can find us plus Kevin Wiese on one of these great VPM Stations: 89.1 WCNV, Heathsville; 90.1 WMVE, Chase City; and the flagships, 93.1 and 107.3 VPM-Music and 88.9 HD2, Richmond, and streaming online at VPM.org where it’s always Time For The Blues!
