In Your Ear Episode 54: Robbin Thompson Retrospective

Robbin Thompson

It’s already been more than two years since Robbin Thompson left us. He’d been a pivotal part of the Richmond music scene as a singer, songwriter, producer, and legitimate rock star. But his legacy continues, thanks in part to the live recordings that live in the archives at In Your Ear Studios. In this special season finale program, we’ll showcase some of Robbin’s most memorable Studio A performances with some of his best musical friends. As a board member of JAMinc, it was his idea to start this intimate way of presenting live music in the acoustically sweet spot that is In Your Ear Studio A. So we felt it fitting to bring you some of Robbin’s most memorable performances, with his long time friend and collaborator Steve Bassett, with the Robbin Thompson Band and sitting in with other artists who’ve played the series over the past 13 years. The tunes we’ve selected go a long way toward reminding us of the range and the depth of his talent as a writer and vocalist and of our gratitude for his having the vision to get this special concert series started all those years ago.

In Your Ear offers a chance to discover new artists and appreciate the “in the moment” creativity and inspiration that only live music can provide. Studio A is a “great room,” a haven for artists with intimate, friendly and informed audiences and peerless audio fidelity, thanks to engineers Carlos Chafin, Andrea Stefl and Paul Bruski. JAMinc president Tim Timberlake produces the programs covering a wide range of genres including bluegrass, jazz, blues, old time, Celtic, gospel and singer-songwriters of many styles. Artists range from superior local and regional talents, to premier acts from all over the country. Concerts are held monthly except during the summer and begin with a delicious pot luck buffet in the lobby. Check our website for information and reservations: jaminc.org/events.

Production funding of In Your Ear is made possible in part by... Digital Video Group, Infinity Financial Partners, Threshold Counsel PC, the Virginia Folklife Program and the members of 88.9 WCVE Richmond Public Radio. Artist accommodations in cooperation with the Hampton Inn West.
