Reported by Richmond Bizsense’s Mike Platania

The sale of yet another piece of a South Richmond industrial complex has clocked in as the largest real estate deal in the city so far this year.

Locally based Hourigan Development and Washington, D.C.-based DSC Partners last week sold two sections of its Deepwater Industrial Park for $40.2 million, according to city property records.

The deal included two warehouses at 2301 and 3001 Commerce Road totaling 321,000 square feet. Maryland-based Matan Cos. was the buyer.

Downtown tattoo shop’s move to Brookland Park Blvd. adds to activity in Northside neighborhood
Reported by Richmond Bizsense’s Mike Platania

A downtown tattoo shop is heading to the Brookland Park Boulevard corridor after closing one of the highest priced deals in the Northside neighborhood in recent years.

Unkindness Art is preparing to relocate to 2923 North Ave. from its home of eight years at 220 W. Broad St. in the Arts District.

As part of its move, the tattoo parlor also is planning to open an art gallery and shop dubbed Nevermore next door at 2925 North Ave., at the avenue’s intersection with Brookland Park Boulevard.

Unkindness owner Teresa Sharpe purchased both 2923 and 2925 North Ave. in late August for $999,000.

Two new taquerias to open across from each other in the Fan
Reported by Richmond Bizsense’s Mike Platania

The Fan is set to get a pair of new taquerias – right across the street from each other.

Juan More Taco is preparing to open at 304 N. Robinson St., while Nuevo Mexico Restaurante #2 is heading to 301 N. Robinson St.

The 1,300-square-foot Juan More Taco space has housed at least four concepts over the years, including Kirin Asian Cuisines, Boka Tako Bar, J Kogi and Michael’s Pies & Pints. Nuevo Mexico’s storefront has seen slightly less churn, with Metro Bar & Grill operating there from the late 1990s until 2020, when it was succeeded by Mr. Pulpo Seafood Grill & Bar, which closed over the summer after about a two-year run.

New oyster bar from Longoven team finds its space in Scott’s Addition
Reported by Richmond Bizsense’s Mike Platania

As a multibuilding project in Scott’s Addition approaches the finish line, particulars about one of its restaurant tenants have been revealed.

Lillian Oyster Hall is preparing to open at 3001 W. Leigh St., in the “Gem” building that’s part of the Scott’s Collection project by Capital Square that included 209 apartments and 5,900 square feet of commercial space across three buildings at 3001 W. Leigh St. and 2900 and 3000 W. Clay St.

Behind the new raw bar are Megan Fitzroy Phelan and Patrick Phelan, the wife-and-husband duo that rose to prominence with Longoven, a high-end restaurant that they recently shuttered at 2939 W. Clay St.

The Phelans inked the lease for the Leigh Street space in the spring but weren’t ready to share details at the time.
