It’s been more than a decade since we last heard a new record by Richmond’s own reggae star, Mighty Joshua. His new album, Dreaducation, features 14 tracks that all grab your attention with their powerful grooves, funk and guests.
The title track is an education on the history and meaning of dreadlocks, said Joshua, who said when he first started growing his locs he felt people were stereotyping him.
“People look at you a certain way. They make up their mind about who you are and what you represent,” he said. “Dreaducation is about how we, as a society, need to educate ourselves about the history of dreads.”
Joshua has a strong roster of talent to help deliver his message. From local horn players Samson Trinh, John Charlotte and Pete Anderson to some local heavyweights like KDTU guitarist DJ Williams and the legendary jazz saxophonist Plunky Branch.
Plus, original Wailers guitarist Junior Marvin shows up to “shred” on guitar, said Joshua.
