The Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond is presenting the world premiere of "What Belongs To You," a chamber opera based on the debut novel by Garth Greenwell with music and libretto by David T. Little this week, with performances Thursday and Saturday evenings.

Composer David T. Little stopped by our VPM Music studios to talk about this project along with Paul Brohan, the Executive Director for the Modlin Center. The opera is for tenor and chamber orchestra, and is a collaboration between Little, Greenwell, director Mark Morris, tenor Karim Sulayman and the ensemble Alarm Will Sound, led by Artistic Director Alan Pierson.

Performances will be in the Alice Jepson Theatre on Thursday, September 26th and Saturday, September 28th, both at 7:30pm. On Friday evening at 7pm, the entire creative team will participate in a panel discussion about the creative process and collaboration of crafting a 90-minute opera from a novel as source material. The public is invited to this discussion, which is free and tickets are not required. I hope you have the chance to check out this exciting premiere!

Yours in good music,
Mike Goldberg
