This program pays tribute to the seasoned and well-traveled blues master William Andrews Blue, born in North Carolina in 1946 and raised in Yorktown, Virginia, Bill spent many of his formative years as a slide guitar slinger and bandleader right here in River City. Bill left for the sunny freedom of Key West Florida in the early 80s and spent the rest of his days there, holding court at the Green Parrot, until his passing in the summer of 2022. Bill’s own brand of rhythm and roll earned him legions of fans and collaborators, many of whom gathered to give him a proper sendoff at Shockoe Bottom’s storied Canal Club in December of 2022. The five-band farewell was organized by old friend and Good Humor Band leader Mike McAdam and was presented by The Breeze and JAMinc. It ran more than five hours, so we’ll just get a taste of what went down.
