This program presents highlights of a reunion of sorts held in RVA listening room, the Tin Pan. These veteran musicians made the radical decision to take hits from the 80s and 90s, and give them the bluegrass treatment, and it really worked. The result was a band called Love Canon, and appreciation for their carefully crafted arrangements blew up. They came down from Charlottesville on this October night in 2023 to shake the dust off and blew away the receptive Tin Pan crowd. You’ll hear Jesse Harper, who led Old School Freight Train on guitar and lead vocals, the versatile Adam Larabee, who’s also a killer jazz guitarist, on banjo, hot mando licks from Andy Thacker, and solid timekeeper Darrell Muller on upright bass. Their guest fiddler was New York friend Jeremy Kittel. We’re grateful to theTin Pan for letting us hang a mic that night, and thanks to Luke Smith for recording and mixing it so well.
