JAMinc Presents: Kauflin/Whiteman Quartet

kauflin whiteman quartet
JAMinc

This edition of JAMinc Presents takes a deep, delectable dive into world class jazz courtesy of a seasoned quartet of Virginia players who’ve toured the world in various configurations, but returned to their Commonwealth to enjoy a warm home game, playing for their own amusement, even amazement, and ours. Justin Kauflin is no stranger to JAMinc, having played with us twice before, first with Tidewater drummer/bandleader Jae Sinnett and then with his own power trio. A protégé of the late Clark Terry and Quincy Jones, and sightless since age 11, Justin has achieved a jaw dropping command of the keyboard. Joining him on lead guitar, is Richmonder Chris Whiteman, also a music professor at William & Mary, whose musical conversation with Justin is spellbinding. And they’re well supported by a solid and tasteful rhythm section comprised of veteran Jimmy Masters on bass and Emre Kartari on percussion. The performance was recorded at Carytown’s Révéler Experiences, likely one of the most imaginative spaces you’ll ever visit with a strong focus on live music.
