JAMinc Presents: Howard Levy Four

Howard Levy in concert
JAMinc

Many discovered Howard Levy’s mastery of the harmonica with the disbanding of bluegrass pathfinders New Grass Revival, and their adventurous banjo player Béla Fleck, whose groundbreaking Flecktones formed in the late 80s included the two man rhythm section Roy and Victor Wooten and the Chicago virtuoso and now Grammy winner Howard Levy who, before he was 20, learned how to play the “black notes” on a diatonic harmonica, through sheer technique, determination and imagination. He was thus able to take his Marine Band harp far beyond its folksy blues roots to explore new classical, jazz, latin and world music horizons. And it doesn’t hurt that he’s also a dazzling pianist, composer and producer. Howard’s been a two-time guest on past JAMinc In Your Ear concerts, most recently with his current guitarist Chris Siebold back in 2012. What you’re about to hear went down on May 1st of 2024 at RVA’s intimate west end listening room the Tin Pan.
