There’s arguably no one who’s added more love, imagination, color and vitality to Richmond’s music scene over the past 3 or 4 decades than Barry Bless. With his grand gray beard and the glint in his eye and that ever present accordion, he’s been an undeniable favorite in many musical settings including the Ululating Mummies back in the 80s, then the Indigenous Gourd Orchestra, the Happy Lucky Combo and his regular Breakfast Cabaret at southside’s Crossroads Coffee. His current sandbox is an eclectic ensemble of RVA based world musicians dubbed the Blue Orpheus Orchestra, who cast an audible and visual spell over the enraptured audience at Carytown’s Révéler Experiences on a snowy January night in 2025. They went on for nearly 2 ½ hours so we had to leave way too much on the cutting room floor. But there’s plenty left to savor, as JAMinc Presents the Blue Orpheus Orchestra recorded live in Carytown.
