The Richmond Symphony continues its Metro Series with three performances around town this weekend. Principal clarinetist David Lemelin will be the featured soloist, performing the Clarinet Concerto by English composer Ruth Gipps. Included on the program will be the Fantasia on Greensleeves by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Appalachian Spring suite by Aaron Copland.
David recently joined me on "An Hour with the Richmond Symphony" to talk about his musical background and to discuss Ruth Gipps and this concerto, which wasn't actually performed until just a few years ago. Performances are Friday evening, February 28th at 7:30 in the Perkinson Center for the Arts & Education in Chester, Saturday evening, March 1st at 7:30 at St. Christopher's School in Richmond, and Sunday afternoon, March 2nd at 3:00 in Blackwell Auditorium at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland.
Yours in good music,
