JAMinc Presents: Modern Groove Syndicate

Modern Groove Syndicate performing at the Camel
JAMinc

Richmond, Virginia is getting a lot of acknowledgement and respect for its diverse and distinguished community of world class musicians--something lots of us have objectively known about for a long time. A quarter century ago, five of those a-list artists Daniel Clarke, Joel DeNunzio, Todd Herrington, JC Kuhl and Trey Pollard, fell together in an inspired collaboration that would become Modern Groove Syndicate. Their jazz funk fusion drew a big crowd, figuratively and literally. JAMinc founder Wally Thulin would release three MGS albums on his Courthouse Records label, the 1st eponymous one, Vessel and Ms. Popular. The band scored a Best Jazz Song nod in the 2005 Independent Music Awards with "Too Good That It's Gone" and they earned the prestigious Theresa Pollack Award for excellence in the arts in 2007. The Ms. Popular album came out on vinyl a year or so ago which provided a perfect excuse to have a big reunion concert. So they packed ‘em in at the Camel on Broad Street and recorded it from the audience perspective, perfectly capturing the night’s vibe. Time to push play, as JAMinc Presents Modern Groove Syndicate reunited, and recorded live at the Camel, here on VPM Music.
