Here’s a recap for the week of March 14, 2025:

Chesterfield County strikes a $2 million deal with a racing operator to reopen Southside Speedway.
Reported by BizSense’s Jack Jacobs and VPM News' Billy Shields.

The multimillion dollar agreement between Chesterfield County and Competitive Racing Investments ushers in a new era of racing for the longtime stock car racetrack that’s been closed since 2020.

The deal follows the signing of a 20-year lease-to-purchase agreement for the speedway between CRI and the Chesterfield Economic Development Authority, which owns the track.

CRI plans to lease the property and ultimately pay nearly $6 million in rent over the lease period, and then assume ownership of the track, according to the agreement.

Auto racing could potentially return in 2026 or 2027.

The JXN Project, a local preservation group located in Richmond, receives a grant for a Jackson Ward home restoration.
Reported by BizSense's Jackie DiBartolomeo.

The JXN Project was recently awarded $75,000 through the Virginia Museum of History and Culture’s Commonwealth History Fund to assist in its effort to rebuild the Skipwith-Roper Cottage.

The original home was built by Abraham Peyton Skipwith, Jackson Ward’s first known black homeowner, in the 1790s.

The first phase of construction will cost around $6 million — funds the JXN Project raised during its first capital fundraising campaign.

The nonprofit will launch the second phase of its campaign to raise funds for the onsite programming center, which will sit next to the historic cottage.

The Hadad’s Lake property in Henrico County is being put up for auction.
Reported by BizSense's Mike Platania.

The Hadad family is putting its namesake-lake and popular recreational space up for sale.

The family closed the water park in 2023 and listed it, along with an adjacent 29 acres, but never secured a buyer.

The auction will take place online and run April 7-9. The auction house Tranzon is planning to offer tours of the property on April 3.

A new neighborhood market and deli called Supper Club opens its second location on Midlothian Turnpike.
Reported by BizSense’s Jack Jacobs.

Co-founders Carlisle Bannister and Christy Dobrucky opened a second location at the Promenade at Winterfield mixed-use development.

The married couple opened its first storefront in western Henrico three years ago and their new location features many of the same market conveniences in addition to a made-to-order deli counter.

The Midlothian spot also has a larger selection of beer and wine. Both markets feature prepared meals, butcher-cut meats, baked goods, seafood and other products.
