The pianist's 2023 release won a Grammy for Best Jazz Instrumental Album in 2024.

Billy Childs’ album The Winds of Change takes inspiration from many sources: his childhood in Los Angeles, his love of film noir and his fascination with capturing what he calls “an interactive conversation” between musicians.

Featuring Childs on piano, Ambrose Akinmusire on trumpet, Scott Colley on bass and Brian Blade on drums, The Winds of Change won a Grammy for Best Jazz Instrumental album in 2024, and it just celebrated its two-year release anniversary on March 17th.

I caught up with Childs about the album live on stage last month, as part of a Pre-Concert Talk at the Modlin Center for the Arts.
