Molly Luther always had a dream of being a composer. She pursued her love of music from a young age by studying piano, but her evolution as a composer came later. In 1955, she acquired a masters degree in musicology from Columbia University and eventually began to focus on composing. While spending a year studying at the Royal College of Music in London, she wrote a piano sonata that won second place in a national competition. That taste of success led to further studies at the University of Michigan and the Manhattan School of Music.
Molly's daughter is Meg Lindholm, Podcast Director at VPM. Meg recently joined me on Afternoon Classical to talk about her mom and share her work "Variants for Orchestra" with our audience.
Yours in good music,
