As legislators gear up for the start of the General Assembly session this week – advocacy groups are previewing their legislative agendas. Left-leaning group Progress Virginia previewed theirs Monday morning.

Redistricting reform, raising the minimum wage, and reproductive healthcare rights top the group’s priorities. The group’s spending $15,000 on an ad campaign to raise awareness about them.

Anna Scholl is Executive Director. She said, “Because we know from our victories on Medicaid expansion and so many other things that it does take all of us coming together to build power and have a conversation.”

The group doesn’t expect everything on their list to pass this year. Instead, they see the campaign as a way to build momentum for next year’s session, when they hope Democrats will regain control of the legislature.

WCVE was unable to reach Republican leadership for comment.
