After President Trump’s Emergency Declaration, the Department of Defense will begin this week to examine projects that could be delayed or cancelled to free funds for border reinforcement. And the fight begins this week over where the money is coming from.

“Three and a half billion out of military construction projects”

Virginia Democratic Senator Tim Kaine appeared on Morning Edition and wrote acting defense secretary Patrick Shanahan requesting a list of all projects affected and an assessment of the risk to service members living in unsafe conditions.

“Black mold, lead all kinds of problems and the President is taking money away from these troops and their families to fund this vanity project. We’re going to challenge him in the Armed Services Committee.”

Shanahan says he has the leeway to determine the final figure from available funds for border related activities.
