President Trump Nominates David Novak to Serve as District Judge on EDVA

President Trump has nominated David Novak to serve as a District Judge on the Eastern District of Virginia, which handles everything from terrorists to business fraud to guns and drugs.

The Eastern District of Virginia is a high profile court and Carl Tobias, Law Professor at the University of Richmond, says he is well-qualified to serve.

“Judge Novak has been a magistrate judge here for five or six years, and before that 18 years as an assistant US attorney. He was one of the lead prosecutors in the Moussoui case involving 911 attack. And, he was nominated before by President George W. Bush, in 2007, but the Democrats were in charge and they never gave him a hearing.”

Now, Democrats are concerned about Trump packing the courts with conservatives, but Tobias says, “When you are nominating and appointing district judges, you are most concerned about competence, can they move the cases.”

He says there should be no problems with Senate confirmation of David Novak.
