Charles City County Supervisors Unanimously Approve Solar Project

At its meeting last night the board approved a special use permit for the 340 megawatt solar project. “It’s going to mean a great deal of opportunity for the county.” County Administrator Michelle Johnson said approval came with conditions, “They’re going to use silicon for the panels.” Silicon is considered safer than Cadmium Telluride, which is cheaper and being more widely used today. “We negotiated with the company for a 300 foot setback.” sPower sealed the deal last night. They are still negotiating for the largest solar array on the East Coast in Spotsylvania County, that has been more controversial. Charles City County has only 7100 resident and they figure the solar installation will bring in over four million in tax dollars over the next 35 years.
