Former civics teacher Dina Persico won $10,000 in her lawsuit against the school, according to documents released by her lawyer.
Persico worked at Providence Middle School and Midlothian High Schools. In the Federal lawsuit, Persico says that she was repeatedly harassed for her non-gender conforming appearance and for her sexual orientation.
In an email to WCVE, Persico’s lawyer Colleen Quinn says her client isn’t focused on the money. Instead, she wants to raise awareness about LGBTQI discrimination.
The settlement mandates an update to the county’s discrimination training including discussions of appropriate terminology.
Chesterfield Schools said in an email statement to WCVE that they are pleased with the outcome and “wish Ms. Persico all the best in her future endeavors.”
