Tuesday, 4th District Democratic Congressman Don McEachin led a bi-partisan group of House members introducing a bill to crack down on robocall violators.
May alone, robocallers rang America’s smartphones an estimated 5 billion times according to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and Congressman McEachin, wants to stop it.
“Robocalls can be a nuisance or even predatory,” says McEachin.
His bill directs the FCC to provide evidence of unlawful violations to the attorney general.
“This bill would allow greater transparency and oversite over the enforcement of robocalls infractions, which is desperately needed at a time when robocalls are on the rise,” says McEachin.
The FCC has just approved new rules to make it easier for ATT&T, Verizon, and others to block suspected spam calls, allowing the companies to enroll consumers in their call-blocking services by default.
McEachin’s bill is labeled “Locking Up Robocallers Act of 2019."
