Hermitage High Students Share Stories About Immigrating, Settling In U.S.

ESL students from Hermitage High School in Henrico County
ESL students from Hermitage High School in Henrico County created a podcast about immigrating to the US for NPR's student podcast challenge. Katy Pierce/Hermitage High School

A number of Virginia students submitted podcasts for NPR's first ever student podcast challenge. On this week's Learning Curve, another honorable mention: ESL students from Hermitage High School talk about their journeys to the United States and adjusting to life in Central Virginia.

A note from their teacher Katy Pierce: "These students have worked very hard to adjust to a new culture and learn a new language. They need to meet the same graduation requirements as their American-born peers, despite needing to learn a new language in order to graduate. They are humble, and proud of who they are and where they come from. All 26 students contributed to the podcast."
