The Henrico County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted last night to approve a rezoning request that will allow the county’s venerable Regency Mall to be transformed into an urban town center with up to 1,250 residents, over time. Charles Fishburne reports.

Charles Fishburne: The county had worked with developers for over a year on a plan to save Regency. Former Board Chair Pat O’Bannon.
Pat O'Bannon: Of all the shopping centers in Henrico, Regency, which was our premier one just a few years ago, now I think can be brought back.
Fishburne: Key will be residential housing, which will begin with a 285-unit apartment complex to replace the old Sears building. Spokesman Mark Slusher.
Mark Slusher: It’s been a great process working with the neighbors and the county to make it all come together.
Fishburne: Plans include retail, restaurants along the perimeter an aquatics center, a trampoline park. There is even early speculation it might be a possible site for the county’s proposed indoor arena. Charles Fishburne, VPM News.
