Amazon Wish List For Educators

A movement to help teachers get supplies is trending on social media.  Ian Stewart has details.

Transcript:

Ian Stewart:  Texas teacher Courtney Jones originally created an Amazon wish list for educators to support other instructors by gifting school supplies. The idea took off and the hashtag  “#clear-the-lists” was born, says Jones in a YouTube post.

Courtney Jones:  Sometimes the public doesn’t know what we need. They think, markers, paper, pencils the easy things.

Stewart:  Jones then partnered with DonorsChoose.org to create a giving page. She then created four regional groups to help with the influx of people wanting to give.

Stewart:  Local Chesterfield teacher Leslie Collins usually spends $200 out of pocket for her kindergarten class.

Leslie Collins:  I have plato on my wish list, heavy paper for games I want to make.

Stewart:  Collins says the county does help with school supplies but she says the budget only goes so far. She adds that there is also more generosity among educators. Teachers are giving their peers items of throwing them away.
