Kamras Kicks Off Five-Day Tour To Promote Strategic Plan

*VPM intern Malcolm Key reported this story.

RPS Superintendent Jason Kamras spoke at Westover Hills Elementary this morning to celebrate the first day back at school. This is the first of a five day tour Kamras is doing to promote a strategic plan for public schools in Richmond.

Kamras was joined by Mayor Levar Stoney and other district officials to give an update on the “Dreams4RPS” plan. “Dreams4RPS” is a five year strategy that started last year as a way to improve educational opportunities for students of all backgrounds. Mayor Stoney highlighted the importance of the plan.

“When you have the full formula working together...all behind the children that enter our doors each and every day, you will get success. This is about setting the bar not at average, but at excellence for each and every one of our students,” Stoney said.

According to Kamras, Richmond Public Schools has added twelve new teaching positions for students learning English as a second language. Kamras said they’ve also created ten additional positions to be added into the music and arts curriculum.
