Cox Challenger Sheila Bynum-Coleman Misrepresents Record

Democrat Sheila Bynum-Coleman is challenging House Speaker Kirk Cox in the upcoming election. On Wednesday, she released a political ad attacking his record on education, among other issues.

But the ad gets Cox’s record wrong.

In the ad, Bynum-Coleman said Cox “joined special interests to deny teacher raises.” She points to two bills, one a budget bill from 2013 and a second bill from 2005.

Cox actually supported the budget bill, which included a teacher raise. It was opposed by former Delegate John Cox not Kirk Cox.

And Kirk Cox didn’t even vote on the 2005 bill....that wanted to commit the state to paying teachers at the national average.

Bynum-Colman apologized for the mistake Wednesday afternoon, and said it’ll be corrected.
