Virginia Tech researchers are learning how to make robots behave more like humans, and as Charles Fishburne reports, they believe it can someday improve prosthetics and industrial devices to function more naturally.

Charles Fishburne: Robots do many things well. Walking is not one of them.
Fishburne: But, inspired by the graceful gait of his dog, Kaveh Hamed wondered if he could develop software and control algorithms to improve the movement of robotic dogs.
Hamed : If you look at dogs, we are working at making those gaits ourselves.
Fishburne: The head of tech’s Hybrid Dynamics Systems and Robot Locomotion Lab and his team are working on projects to help robots navigate increasingly complex environments and to help humans.
Hamed : For example for making powered prosthetic legs to improve the quality of life of people.
For Hamed, it begins with teaching robots how to walk better on four legs and two.
