Alec Baldwin Visits Virginia State Senate Hopeful Amanda Pohl

Alec Baldwin and Amanda Pohl

Actor Alec Baldwin walks alongside Democratic state senate hopeful Amanda Pohl in Midlothian on Tuesday. Baldwin made three stops in Virginia supporting Democrats running for the General Assembly. His visit was organized by the progressive group People For the American Way which Baldwin sits on the board of the group. The actor starred on the TV show 30 Rock and has made recent appearances on Saturday Night Live impersonating Donald Trump.

Democratic state senate hopeful Amanda Pohl speaks at a press conference on Tuesday. Pohl is running against GOP incumbent Amanda Chase, an outspoken Tea Party activist, in a conservative-leaning district. Pohl is a social worker, church deacon, and first-time political candidate. The seat is seen by political watchers as a longshot but not impossible pickup for Democrats hoping to flip the GOP-controlled state legislature.

Actor Alec Baldwin holds a roll of quarters at a press conference on Tuesday. He said GOP State Senator Amanda Chase might need them to park if she loses -- a reference to a run-in Chase had with Capitol Police in which she purportedly berated an officer. Chase shot back on Facebook that “my socialist opponent, Amanda Pohl, meeting constituents with Alec Baldwin, who berates young women” -- a reference to a 2007 recorded voicemail where Baldwin can be heard ranting at his then 11 year-old daughter.

Alec Baldwin knocked on two doors in Midlothian in support of Democrat Amanda Pohl, whom he said “exemplifies what I think you want in a public servant.” Baldwin is one of several high-profile Democrats to drum up support ahead of the November 5 General Assembly elections. Hanover County native Jason Mraz has written songs supporting two other state senate candidates. Presidential hopefuls Beto O’Rourke, Corey Booker, and Elizabeth Warren have also made recent stops in support of Democrats.
