Second Solar Farm coming to Chesterfield County

Another Solar Farm is landing in Chesterfield County. California based Cypress Creek Renewables’ will build its 20-megawatt facility on over 300 acres in southern Chesterfield. The Board of Supervisors approved the plan despite some resident concerns.

At a public hearing last week, resident Dawn Gambardella says she’s studied the proposal but didn’t see any disposal plans for the panels.

“Therefore I suggest that it would be a good idea to come up with a countywide plan on how to deal with these as they’re damaged and decommissioned.”

Gambardella says panels should be disposed of with the environment in mind and that any company that doesn’t do so should face fines.

Cypress Creek Project Manager Haley Larabee told the board that there is a lot of salvage value in recycling solar panels.

“So it wouldn’t make sense for someone to dispose of those and just throw them away because you could reutilize the component they’re made of.”

Larabee says Cypress Creek has the option to lease the land for up to 40 years.
