Allegiant Air has announced new, non-stop service from Richmond International to Punta Gorda Airport in Florida. It is another example of how success engenders success in what is becoming a very busy market.
Allegiant picked a good day to announced low-price fares to Florida.

Pat O’Bannon, Chairman of the Airport Commission says Allegiant now will serve five cities from RIC and she says they are adding the service because Richmond travelers are using the airport.
O’Bannon: For 24 consecutive months, we have had record passenger traffic at RIC.
Richmond International is in the process of expanding Concourse A to six new gates and more security checkpoints. Other recent expansions of service include Southwest weekend flights to Tampa and Orlando and upcoming, American airline service to JFK. Charles Fishburne, VPM News.
Incidentally, RIC reports two cancellations this afternoon to Detroit and Chicago and more than a dozen flights delayed an hour or more, because of the weather.
