It has been one year since Virginia Tech announced a one billion dollar “Innovation Campus” in Northern Virginia and late last week, Tech and the investors held a first public meeting to report on progress. As Charles Fishburne reports, the project will be much more than just a campus.

Charles Fishburne: This is preliminary planning for Phase 1 to transform the old Potomac Yards into a 21st century walkable community where people can live and learn, work and relax.
Fishburne: Friends and future neighbors came to hear about the mammoth, 65-acre project that features Tech anchoring one end, a new metro station at the other and retail, offices, affordable housing, biking, walking trails and open space in the middle.

Tech will take undergraduate students from across Virginia and plans to turn out 750 master’s degrees and 100 doctoral students every year to work in Virginia’s emerging high-tech industries.
