Chesterfield Approves Extra Funding for Roads

Two major road projects in Chesterfield County are delayed and need more money. So, the Board of Supervisors approved more than $1.1 million dollars in extra funding last week.

Deputy County Administrator Jesse Smith says both -- the Woolridge Road and Lucks Lane widening projects -- have run into issues.

The Wooldridge project is getting $500,000 more due to unforeseen price increases for right-of-way and traffic light needs. That project is on schedule to be finished next May.

However, the timeline for Lucks Lane is pushed back an entire year due to contractor issues, says Smith.  As part of their agreement, money for both projects will be paid back to the county.

“We will not pay the contractor after a certain point and he’ll be working for free. And at the end we’ll reconcile and have money left over,” said Smith.

The project was given more than  $650,00 to keep it moving forward.
