The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch in effect for all of Central Virginia from one pm until 7 am tomorrow, with up to two inches of rain predicted beginning this afternoon, sometimes heavy. The James River is expected to rise above flood stage Friday afternoon, cresting at 15 feet Saturday.
Jeff Orrock at the National Weather Service says they'll be monitoring water levels. "We’ll be paying really close attention to the James River," in particular, he said. They anticipate it will rise even higher than 15 feet at Westham Gauge.
"This will cause some flooding of some of the property along the edges of the river, people’s driveways, some roads," on Friday through Saturday, Orrock said.
Farther South, from Emporia to Hampton, the storm could bring high winds and possible tornadoes.
