A new GRTC bus line opened in Chesterfield County this week.

Route 111 runs along Jefferson Davis Highway, starting at the Food Lion near Chippenham Parkway and ending at John Tyler Community College.

Buses will run every half hour, six days a week and there’s a Park n’ Ride option available at the community college.

According to the county, the cost for the service is over $1 million per year. The state is paying for most of the costs for the first two years, with the county picking up the rest.

A one-way ticket will cost $1.50 and reduced fares are available for seniors, minors, those with disabilities and people with Medicare cards. The county expects the line to see over 100 riders per day.

This is the second bus line for the county. A third proposed route is being considered to run along Midlothian Turnpike from Chesterfield Towne Center to Chippenham Parkway.
