In Tuesday's briefing, Gov. Ralph Northam reminded residents about new business regulations going into effect to combat the spread of coronavirus, and addressed statements by President Trump about reopening the country.
He also acknowledged the challenges of school closures. Northam said parents and student's lives have been disrupted, "high school seniors who are facing their last semester of school with no prom. No graduation ceremony. None of the rites of passage that should mark these big changes.”
While state officials said a federal shipment of medical equipment arrival of medical gear was helpful, they said they need more. Following that, Northam was asked about the recent statement by Trump on ending restrictions in 19 days, in time for Easter, as an economic measure. Northam said it was more important now to solve the health crisis. "The sooner we can put the health crisis behind us, the sooner our economy will recover," he said.
