A longtime food distribution program will return to Richmond’s public housing communities on Monday. Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority paused the service in Aprilin an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19.  A spokesperson for RRHA said the agency can resume its food distributions with proper social distancing now that it has more volunteers and has restocked personal protective equipment.

The housing authority provides produce, protein and non-perishable groceries to hundreds of city residents through a partnership with hunger-relief organization FeedMore.

“Those folks are in food deserts and produce is expensive and hard to come by,” said Doug Pick, president and CEO of FeedMore. “We believe strongly in trying to provide them with balanced nutrition. ”

RRHA is urging residents with mobility issues or disabilities to reach out to its resident services staff to make pick-up or drop-off arrangements. Otherwise, food distributions will be from 11 a.m. — 1 p.m. at the following properties throughout the month:

  • Fox Manor Senior Apartments — Mon. 5/11
  • Decatur Apartments — Mon. 5/11
  • Stonewall Senior Apartments — Tue. 5/12
